Check Safety Equipment Around Your Home This Spring Cleaning Season

It’s spring cleaning season. While it’s great to clean, get rid of unnecessary items and de-clutter your home, it’s also a great time to check that your safety plans are in place and that your equipment is in working order.

Test your smoke alarms

–       Check that they are in working order

–       Change the battery

–       Your smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years

Test your carbon monoxide detectors (Don’t have one? Get one installed)

–       Test that your carbon monoxide detectors are working

–       Change the battery

Do you have a gas detector? If so, follow the steps above. Otherwise, see why you should install one.

Check your fire extinguisher

–       Make sure safety seals, tamper indicators and maintenance tag are not broken or missing

–       Examine for signs of physical damage, corrosion, leakage or a clogged nozzle

–       Check the pressure gauge reading or indicator

–       Recycle and replace if necessary

Discard of any broken items around your home properly to avoid injury.

We at the Beattie Law Firm put your safety first and highly encourage you to have safety plans put in place as well as simple, life-saving detectors installed in your homes.
