Drinking and Driving this Holiday Season

As the holiday season approach us, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is kicking off its pre-holiday season drunk driving prevention campaign to remind all motorists that it’s extremely dangerous to operate a vehicle after consuming alcohol.

The best way to prevent drunk driving is to plan ahead and choose your role before alcohol consumption begins. By planning ahead, you could prevent not only a serious crash, but also a DUI.

Unfortunately, we still face the many dangers of drunk drivers as many citizens feel that it’s ok to drive after having only a little bit to drink. Always remember that the consumption of alcohol lessens one’s ability to make informed decisions and can be a deadly mix.

In 2013, there were 317 fatal crashes in Iowa, with 94 of those crashes being alcohol-related fatalities. Nationwide, 10,076 total lives were lost in drunk driving accidents.

This holiday season, we urge all Iowans to avoid drunk driving at all costs. If you know you’re attending an event where you’ll be tempted to drive, leave your keys at home or designate a driver or car service. Should you or someone you know have been affected by a drunk driving-related crash, contact the Beattie Law Firm at 515-263-1000 for a free consultation today.
