Fire Prevention Week 2015 – Hear the Beep Where You Sleep

National Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. This year, National Fire Prevention Week is from October 4–10, 2015, with the theme: Hear the Beep, Where you Sleep.

Every bedroom needs a working smoke alarm.

According to the NFPA, roughly half of home fire deaths result from fires reported between 11 p.m. and 7 a.m., when most people are asleep. We at the Beattie Law Firm have encouraged citizens to keep working smoke alarms in their household.

These small, life-saving devices cut chances of fatalities, from a fire, in half.
What do you need to know about home fires?

  • Three out of five home fire deaths happen when there is no smoke alarm or non-working smoke alarm in the home
  • In 2013, fire departments responded to an estimated 369,500 home structure fires, which caused 2,755 deaths, 12,200 injuries and $7.0 billion in damage

Know your life can be saved when you have working detectors in your home.
