When a pedestrian accident occurs, it’s a tragedy — one we hope may have been avoided.

Whether you’re walking, running or driving a vehicle, it is important to stay alert and to follow the rules of the road. This is the first step to protect yourself as a pedestrian or motorist.

How can we protect ourselves, as pedestrians, from being hit by a car? And as motorists, how can we protect ourselves from hitting or killing someone?

Cut distractions by staying off the phone, being alert and reducing your speed. It also is important to keep focused on the roadway and immediate surroundings, and use crosswalks when available.
