I-235 announces traffic enforcement project

Buckle up and drive safely. On Thursday, February 25, officers from multiple Iowa jurisdictions will be enforcing all traffic laws on I-235. The Polk County Sheriff’s Department said these projects are intended to raise awareness of safe driving habits in order to save lives.

Rollover crash in residential front yard

Last Thursday, multiple emergency responders were called to a serious rollover crash near Merle Hay Mall.

• Two vehicles ended up in the front yard of a home, with one car completely flipped onto its top nearly inches from the home.
• The SUV involved hit a tree
• Authorities believe the car was traveling eastbound, when the driver missed a stop sign and hit the SUV.
• Approximately 3,400 people were without power due to the crash 

Contractor suffers electrical shock

CPR was started immediately after a construction worker suffered an electrical shock on the job.

• The incident occurred at Drake University on Wednesday, February 17, 2016
• An electrician and contractor were preparing to do work involving two green transformer boxes. The electrician was showing the contractor where to drill holes when the contractor leaned into the box to get a closer look and got shocked.
• The contractor’s heart had stopped, so the electrician immediately started CPR
• The contractor suffered burns to his hands and head
