It is with heavy hearts that we report the following accident in the hometown of Brett, Ryan and Don Beattie. We will keep the family of these victims in our hearts.

5:40 a.m. CDT, September 28, 2011

Around 4:15 am on Wednesday, police headed out to Southeast 116th Street north of Runnels on reports of an accident.

On arriving, they found two cars that appeared to have hit head on. Both vehicles ended up in ditches on opposite sides of the road. The accident involved one man and one woman.

Police say the man was pronounced dead on the scene and the woman was taken by life flight to a Des Moines hospital. Her status is unknown at this time.

The block where the accident occured has been blocked off to traffic until further notice.
