During the commute Thursday morning, a driver died in a crash on the Highway 65/6 bypass around the metro.
The crash occurred between the Army Post Road exits and the Des Moines River around 8:45 a.m. Currently, the area is just two lanes due to bridge construction.
Iowa State Patrol spokesman Scott Bright said the driver realized they were in the wrong lane and attempted to correct into the other lane. They did it too late and were broadsided by a northbound vehicle.
The driver died at the scene. Another driver was airlifted to a local hospital.
As we are entering the months of heavy road construction, remember to take extra caution and slow down in construction areas.
