In other news, while this heat wave has many Iowans rejoicing, KCCI is reminding us that winter isn’t over yet. We’ve got some good (and not-so-good) reports on the rest of the season.
First, and foremost, celebrate! We’ve made it through the winter midpoint, and it’s all downhill from here. While it’s not quite time to hang up your parkas, officials are projecting that the worst of the winter is already behind us. This doesn’t mean there won’t be any icy weather, but expect future cold fronts to pass quickly.
Unfortunately with this good news comes some bad. While temperatures are looking better, Iowa residents should expect the snow to pile up. There won’t be as many snowstorms, but the ones we do have are going to be bigger. With this in mind, we think it’s a great time to refresh your winter driving knowledge. Follow these tips to stay safe (and warm) the rest of this snowy season:
-
As always, make sure you’re well-rested before driving. This is especially important during the winter.
-
Never warm up your car in an enclosed area, like a garage, without first opening a door.
-
Keep your gas tank at least half-full to avoid gas freezes.
-
Do not use cruise control when driving on slippery surfaces.
-
Wear your seatbelt, every time!
We urge all of our clients and loved ones to buckle up and stay safe and warm.
