It’s spring cleaning season. While it’s great to clean, get rid of unnecessary items and de-clutter your home, it’s also a great time to check that your safety plans are in place and that your equipment is in working order.
Test your smoke alarms
– Check that they are in working order
– Change the battery
– Your smoke detectors should be replaced every 10 years
Test your carbon monoxide detectors (Don’t have one? Get one installed)
– Test that your carbon monoxide detectors are working
– Change the battery
Do you have a gas detector? If so, follow the steps above. Otherwise, see why you should install one.
Check your fire extinguisher
– Make sure safety seals, tamper indicators and maintenance tag are not broken or missing
– Examine for signs of physical damage, corrosion, leakage or a clogged nozzle
– Check the pressure gauge reading or indicator
– Recycle and replace if necessary
Discard of any broken items around your home properly to avoid injury.
