Liability Insurance Limits for Vehicular Accidents

Liability insurance limits for vehicular accidents is often misunderstood. It is common knowledge that if someone owns or drives a vehicle the State of Iowa requires insurance coverage to pay injured parties in the event of an accident. Current state minimum liability coverage amounts is 20,000 per person/$40,000 total per accident. For most people this is grossly inadequate insurance coverage. I recommend that a minimum amount purchased for such coverage be at least $100,000 per person/250,000 per accident.

Generally when you compare the cost of purchasing minimum coverage as opposed to $250,000 per person it is well worth purchasing the additional insurance coverage. This is because insurance is utilized to protect an insured’s personal assets from being used to pay damages to an injured victim. When viewed in this light most people would opt to purchase as much liability insurance coverage as they can.
