Nearly 300 traffic fatalities in Iowa so far

The Iowa DOT has reported 297 fatalities in Iowa, so far this year. This is a 5 percent decrease from 2015, which had 313 fatalities as of December 8. Of the 297 fatalities, the following seat belt usage reports are:

• 106 with belt
• 95 without belt
• 21 unknown
• 75 not applicable (motorcycle, pedestrian, etc.)

Early morning fire damages Des Moines home

On Monday morning, firefighters were called out to a Des Moines home.

• An electrical issue is believed to have caused the fire.
• All residents were able to get out safely.
