Plan for Severe Weather

Finally it seems as though winter is behind us and spring is on its way. In Iowa, this means we may get our share of severe spring weather.

Yesterday marked the annual statewide tornado drill in Iowa, in conjunction with Severe Weather Awareness week. Yesterday, outdoor warning sirens were tested and alerts were broadcasted on TV and radio stations statewide. The drill gives cities the opportunity to be sure their equipment is ready for the storm season ahead.

This week is a great reminder for families as well. Make a severe weather safety plan with your family. Officials suggest having a designated tornado safe area, such as a basement or storm shelter. If either is unavailable, the inner most and lower most room without windows in your home is safest.

Many local news stations offer email and text alerts on your mobile device for severe weather news. Weather radios are also a good option to prepare you for severe weather.

We at the Beattie Law Firm want you and your family to be safe this severe weather season.
