It’s a new year, and for many it means a “fresh start”. Resolutions from bettering your lifestyle to spending more time with your family are set. These are all great and worthy resolutions; however, consider adding resolutions for safe driving.
In Iowa, 2016 ended with 401 fatalities — an increase of 81 fatalities from 2015. Making our roads safer start with you.
Don’t drink and drive — select a designated driver or other means of getting home.
Stay off your phone — distracted driving is like drunk driving. Put your phone down and concentrate on the roads.
Obey the speed limit — speed is a factor in approximately 1/3 of fatal accidents. Pay attention to your speed and obey.
Wear your seatbelt — It’s that simple. Seat belts save more than 12,000 lives a year.
Yield to pedestrians — stay vigilant around crosswalks.
Share the road with bicyclists — bicyclists follow same road rules as motorists, respect each other and share the road.
Watch for motorcycles — motorcyclists are often going the same speed, but less protected. Always be cautious.
Protect your littles — make sure your children are buckled in age-appropriate seats.
Maintain your vehicle — have your car regularly maintenance to prevent any breakdowns that may cause an accident.
